So I did it, and this time that "(Key:XXXXXXX)" number was different than before. (I tried other methods too like shorting the cmos and removing the battery, all failed b/c of modern laptop theft protection).Ī IT friend at work recommended I try that website again, but only with the cmos batters removed AND disconnect the internal battery as well, so it was only on AC power. It said something along the lines of "enter unlock / recovery password (Key:XXXXXXX)" where XXXXXXX is some assortment of numbers.Īll the instructions I found had me go to this site: BIOS Master Password Generator for Laptops and put in the key there and try the output as the bios password.
